Confluence is getting a fresh new look and navigation

We’re in the process of rolling out these changes and the documentation may not match your experience. Bear with us while we update it to reflect the new changes. More about navigating the new Confluence

Choose a default language

Confluence administrators can define a default language to be applied to all spaces. Individual users can select a language preference for their session.

This doesn’t apply to anonymous users.

Set the default language

To change the default language across Confluence:

  1. Select the wheel icon () in the top-right corner to open Confluence administration.

  2. Find Settings in the left-hand navigation.

  3. Select Configuration > General configuration.

  4. Scroll down to Internationalization.

  5. Select a language from the Global default language dropdown.

  6. Select Save global default language changes.

Other language settings

Individual users can choose a display language that's different from the global default.

The language a user sees will depend on the following factors, in order from highest to lowest importance:

  • The language preference set in the user's profile. Users must be logged in for this setting to take effect.

  • The language preference set in the user's web browser, as detected by Confluence.

  • The default language for the instance, as defined by a Confluence administrator.
