Add, view, and remove dependencies between work items

Dependencies between work items

For company-managed projects

Users with the Link work items permission can add or remove dependencies.

Anyone with access to the project can view dependencies. More about managing company-managed project permissions.

For team-managed projects

Users with the Link any work item permission can add or remove dependencies.

Anyone with access to the project can view dependencies. More about managing access to your team-managed project.

You can link work items in the timeline that are contingent on others being completed first. You can also simply see which work items may be blocked due to another. All work types can have dependencies.

Add a dependency

To create dependencies between items:

  1. Hover over a work item.

  2. Select the link icon that appears and drag it to the dependent item.

View dependency details

To view the dependency details, select the line between dependent items.

Remove a dependency

To remove the dependency:

  1. Select the line between dependent work items.

  2. Select the unlink icon .
