Edit a group
Which user management experience do you have?
Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one. You can identify which user management experience you have by checking where your Users page is located.

Update name or description
Who can do this? |
To edit the group name or description:
Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.
Select Directory > Groups.
Select the group you want to edit to open its profile.
Select the more actions menu (•••). Select Edit group name to rename the group or Edit description to change the description.
Editing group names is a beta feature. Some things to keep in mind:
You can’t edit the name of a group if it's used within some Jira administration settings or if it has a restricted or protected name. Some name changes could have an impact on your apps.
If you edit a group name associated with a Jira Cloud automation rule, the rule will stop working.
Manage app roles

To manage app roles for a group:
Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.
Select Directory > Groups.
Select the group whose roles you want to manage to open its profile.
Select Grant access and follow the prompts. You can add new roles or remove existing roles.
When you grant a group access to a new app, we email its users to invite them to start using the app. If a user in the group already has access to that app, we won't email them.
Add users

To add users to a group:
Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.
Select Directory > Groups.
Select the group that you want to add users to to open its profile.
Select Add users and follow the prompts.
When you add a user to a group and they get access to a new app as a result, we email them to invite them to start using the app. If they already have access to all apps, we won't email them.
You can automate this process with the Add user to group API.
Remove users

To remove users from a group:
Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.
Select Directory > Groups.
Select the group that you want to remove users from to open its profile.
In the Members tab, select Remove for the user you want to remove.
You can automate this process with the Remove user from group API.
