Remove admin role from a user

Which user management experience do you have?

Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one. You can identify which user management experience you have by checking where your Users page is located.

Remove an admin role from someone when they no longer need the role.

Who can do this?
Role: Organization admin
Atlassian Cloud: All plans
Atlassian Government Cloud: Available

Remove organization admin role

To remove the organization admin role from someone:

  1. Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Directory > Users.

  3. Select the user to go to their profile.

  4. Select the more actions menu (•••).

  5. Select Remove organization role.

If you only have one organization admin and they’ve left your organization or their account is compromised, a billing admin or technical contact will need to contact Support to assign a new organization admin, before you can remove the existing organization admin.

Remove site admin role

To remove the site admin role from someone:

  1. Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Directory > Users.

  3. Select the user to go to their profile.

  4. Select the Site admin tab.

  5. Select Revoke for the relevant site.

Remove user access admin role

To remove the user access admin role from someone:

  1. Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Directory > Users.

  3. Select the user to go to their profile.

  4. Remove User access admin in the Roles column for the relevant app.

Remove app admin role

To remove the app admin role from someone:

  1. Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Directory > Users.

  3. Select the user to go to their profile.

  4. Remove App admin in the Roles column for the relevant app.

To remove the organization admin role from someone:

  1. Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Settings > Administrators.

  3. Find the user, then select Remove.

If you only have one organization admin and you can’t log in to their account, a billing admin or technical contact will need to contact Support. This can happen if they’ve left your organization or their account is compromised. Tell us who you want to transfer the organization admin role to.

Remove site admin role

Who can do this?
Role: Organization admin, Site admin
Atlassian Cloud: All plans

To remove the site admin role from someone:

  1. Go to admin.atlassian.com. Select your site if you have more than one.

  2. From the Users page, select the user to go to their profile.

  3. Select the more actions menu (•••).

  4. Select Modify site admin role.

If the user is also an organization admin, you’ll need to remove their organization admin role before you can remove their site admin role.

Remove app admin role

To remove the app admin role from someone:

  1. Go to admin.atlassian.com. Select your site if you have more than one.

  2. From the Users page, select the user to go to their profile.

  3. Remove App admin in the Roles column for the relevant app.
