Add and delete a workflow from a work item

As a Jira administrator, you can create, copy, import, and delete workflows to adapt to the needs of your business processes and teams working in Jira application projects. When you're ready to share a new workflow with your teams, you can associate it with a workflow scheme, which can then be associated with any number of projects.

How to copy an existing workflow

  1. Select > Work items.

  2. Select Workflows.

  3. Find the workflow you want to duplicate, then select Copy

  4. Enter a new name and description, then select Copy

You can then use the workflow editor to add or edit statuses and transitions.

How to add a new workflow

  1. Select > Work items.

  2. Select Workflows > Add workflow.

  3. Enter a name and description for the workflow, then select Add.

You can then use the workflow editor to add statuses and transitions.

How to use the workflow editor

There are several things you can do within the workflow editor:

Field

Description

Diagram/Text

Toggles between showing the workflow as a diagram or text.

Export

Export the workflow to share it with another instance or upload it to the Atlassian Marketplace.

Add status

A status represents the state of a work item at a specific point in your workflow.

Add transition

A transition is a link between two statuses that enables a work item to move from one status to another. When adding a transition between two statuses, you can choose to associate the transition with a screen to ask for any needed information about this change.

How to start using a workflow

When it’s ready to share, add the workflow to a workflow scheme.

How to delete a workflow from a work item

You can't delete a workflow that's assigned to a workflow scheme. First remove the workflow from the scheme and then proceed to delete the workflow.

  1. Select > Work items.

  2. In the Workflows section, select Workflows.

  3. Find the relevant workflow, then select Delete.
