Optimize field options per field
The site optimizer helps Jira administrators identify fields that are approaching or exceeding the field option limit and remove unused options.
A field can have up to 20,000 options across all contexts. If a field reaches the limit, admins can’t add new options until its usage is reduced. Existing options and work item data remain available.
This feature is available only on Jira Premium and Enterprise plans. Jira admin permissions are required.
To review field options:
Select Settings (), then select System.
Select Site optimizer.
In the Limits section, find Field options per field, and select Review.
The Optimize field options page shows each field’s name, associated spaces, limit status, option usage, and available action. You can also search for a field by name.
Select Optimize next to a field to review:
the number of options in the field
the number of unused options
the potential reduction
To remove unused options:
Select Review actions.
Review the options recommended for removal.
Confirm the removal.
An option is recommended for removal when it hasn’t been referenced by a work item or workflow within the applicable usage period and was created more than one month ago. Fields that aren’t associated with any spaces may be shown as ‘Unassociated’.
