We’re renaming ‘products’ to ‘apps’

Atlassian 'products’ are now ‘apps’. You may see both terms used across our documentation as we roll out this terminology change. Here’s why we’re making this change

Delete a sandbox

Who can do this?

Role: Organization admin

Plan: Premium, Enterprise

Atlassian Government Cloud: Not available

Delete a sandbox

To delete a sandbox:

  1. Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Apps > Sandbox or Settings > Sandbox.

  3. Under Actions (⋯) next to a specific sandbox, select Delete sandbox.

Deleting your sandbox will not delete your app in production. Once you delete your sandbox, it will go into offline state and can be restored within 30 days.

Delete a sandbox site

To delete a sandbox site:

  1. Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Apps > Sandbox or Settings > Sandbox.

  3. Under Actions (⋯) next to a specific sandbox site, select Delete sandbox URL.

Once you delete your sandbox site, all sandboxes within the site will go into offline state and can be restored within 30 days.

Offline state

The sandbox transitions into the offline state when:

  • You delete the sandbox or the entire sandbox site

  • The sandbox is inactive for 28 days

You can restore the offline sandbox with its data within 30 days. After that, the offline sandbox and all its data will be permanently deleted.

Using the URL of a deleted sandbox site

Deleting a sandbox site does not delete the URL immediately. After the sandbox site goes to the offline state, it will be permanently deleted after 30 days. The URL will be available to use 30 days after the permanent deletion.

We recommend that you reset your sandbox to reuse your sandbox site URL. Resetting your sandbox will clear all information but retain the URL. Contact support to reset your sandbox.

Overwriting an offline sandbox

When you add a new sandbox for an app to an existing sandbox site, you can choose an app that already has a sandbox in an offline state. The offline sandbox will be immediately deleted and overwritten by the new sandbox. For example, when you create a Confluence sandbox and then delete it, it will go into an offline state. Then, if you add a new Confluence sandbox to the same site, it will overwrite the existing offline sandbox.

Jira sandboxes within the same site

Jira, Jira Service Management, and Jira Product Discovery sandboxes are linked together as they share the same platform, which may affect their sandboxes within the same URL. More about Jira family and sandboxes

Deleting a sandbox

If you delete a Jira sandbox, this will also delete your Jira Service Management sandbox within the same URL and vice versa. However, deleting a Jira Product Discovery sandbox will not affect Jira and/or Jira Service Management sandboxes.

Overwriting a sandbox

If you add a Jira sandbox to a sandbox URL that already contains an offline Jira sandbox, this will overwrite the offline Jira sandbox and the offline Jira Service Management sandbox and vice versa. However, overwriting a Jira Product Discovery sandbox will not affect Jira and/or Jira Service Management sandboxes.

Changes to production environment might affect the sandbox

Your sandbox lifecycle is linked to your production environment lifecycle, so if your app is destroyed or is no longer on a Premium or Enterprise plan, your sandbox will be destroyed as well. Sandbox data and configuration can’t be restored after it’s deleted.
