We’re renaming ‘products’ to ‘apps’

Atlassian 'products’ are now ‘apps’. You may see both terms used across our documentation as we roll out this terminology change. Here’s why we’re making this change

Jira family and sandboxes

Who can do this?

Role: Organization admin

Plan: Premium, Enterprise

Atlassian Government Cloud: Not available

Jira, Jira Service Management (JSM), and Jira Product Discovery (JPD) share the same site URL because they are built on the same platform. As a result, changes to one sandbox may affect the other sandboxes that also share the URL.

Here’s a summary of how different changes will affect other Jira, Jira Service Management, and Jira Product Discovery sandboxes with the same URL.

Action

Result

Copying all data into a sandbox

  • When you copy all production data into one of these sandboxes (Jira, Jira Service Management, or Jira Product Discovery), we’ll also copy data into the other two sandboxes provided they’re already set up.

  • This will overwrite any existing data in these sandboxes.

Deleting a sandbox

  • If you delete a Jira sandbox, we’ll also delete the Jira Service Management sandbox within the same URL and vice versa.

  • Deleting a Jira Product Discovery sandbox will not affect Jira and/or Jira Service Management sandboxes.

Overwriting an offline sandbox

  • If you add a Jira sandbox to a sandbox URL that already contains an offline Jira sandbox, this will overwrite the offline Jira sandbox and the offline Jira Service Management sandbox and vice versa.

  • Overwriting a Jira Product Discovery sandbox will not affect Jira and/or Jira Service Management sandboxes.

Sandboxes for Jira products on Free or Standard plans

Previously, you could add a Jira Free or Standard sandbox to an existing sandbox site with Jira Premium or Enterprise. This is no longer supported. You can’t create sandboxes for Jira products on Free or Standard plans.

If you created such sandboxes in the past, here are the conditions:

  • You won’t be able to restore offline sandboxes. They will be deleted after 30 days.

  • Active sandboxes won’t be affected for now, but we’ll eventually deprecate them as we move out of the Beta release.
