Archive a classification level

Data classification rules are part of an early access program. You may see a difference between the information below and your Guard administration experience.

Archiving a classification level can affect other aspects of your security posture, which are explained below, and should only be performed after careful consideration of the impact it may have.

Atlassian Government Cloud: Available

When you archive a published classification level be aware of the following impacts.

  • Users won’t be able to classify pages and issues at that sensitivity anymore.

  • All content objects classified at this level will become classified according to their space or organization default level, or unclassified if there are no defaults.

    • They will retain a history of this classification, and if you find it necessary to restore and republish a classification level, those pages and issues will regain this classification level.

  • All spaces with this classification level set as their default will be reclassiified with your organization default, or unclassified if there is no organization default.” What is a default classification level?

How archiving affects other security features

Classification levels interacts with other security features. You won’t be able to archive a classification level while it’s associated with classification rules, data security policy controls, or organization defaults.

If your organization has configured and implemented classification rules, a data security policy, or organization defaults, make sure you understand the impact of removing a classification level. Your actions may potentially expose data, depending on your configuration. Before removing a classification level from a classification rule, see:

Archive a classification level

To archive a classification level:

  1. Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Security > Data protection > Data classification.

  3. Select the More actions menu () next to the classification level you want to archive.

  4. Select Archive.

You can automate the process of archiving classification levels with Data loss prevention APIs.

You can have up to 50 archived classification levels.

View archived classification levels

To find archived classification levels:

  1. Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Security > Data protection > Data classification.

  3. Select the More actions menu () above the table of classification levels.

  4. Select View archived levels.
