Restore a classification level

Data classification rules are part of an early access program. You may see a difference between the information below and your Guard administration experience.

You can restore a classification level from the archive to use it again. Restoring a classification level can affect other aspects of your security posture, which are explained below, and should only be performed after careful consideration of the impact it may have.

Before you start

Classification levels can be used with other security features within your organization. Although it’s not possible to archive a classification level while it’s associated with classification rules, data security policy controls, or organization defaults, restoring a classification level can still affect your data. Here are some examples:

  • Any content objects classified with the classification level before it was archived will regain this classification level.

  • Any spaces with this classification level set as the space default before it was archived, and did not change it, will regain this classification level.

Restore a classification level

When you restore a classification level from the archive, it’s restored as a draft.

To restore a classification level:

  1. Go to Atlassian Administration. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Security > Data protection > Data classification.

  3. Select the More actions menu () above the table of classification levels.

  4. Select View archived levels.

  5. Select the Restore in the same row as the classification level you want to restore.

You can automate the process of restoring classification levels with Data loss prevention APIs.

When you’re ready for your users to start classifying Confluence pages and Jira issues, you can publish the classification level. Publish a classification level
